Joe Martinez is the founder, president and chief commercial officer of Healthy Meals Supreme (HMS). Inspired by his own story, Joe started the company with the goal of making it easier for people to eat healthy and live a better quality of life.

Joe was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996 when he was a practicing pharmacist at his own family- run pharmacy in New Jersey. It was then he realized that his daily pizza-kit kat diet was a recipe for disaster and he needed to drastically change his eating habits if he wanted in the future to run around with his grandchildren with his own legs and not be pushed around in a wheelchair. However, delicious, freshly cooked, healthy, easily accessible and affordable meals specifically for people with diabetes were nowhere to be found. So, in partnership with his brother-in-law, he founded a local, healthy meal delivery service. They had great success, but then Joe’s brother-in-law fell ill and passed away. Joe closed up shop.

Though he had temporarily lost his fire for the food business, his zest for helping people to stay healthy remained strong. Thereafter, he served as the Medicaid Pharmacy Director in New Jersey, responsible for 900,000 people, the majority suffering from chronic diseases.  Joe also
worked as the head of Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations for the diabetes device company Valeritas, Inc. and served as the CEO of Center Point Clinical Services, creator of the first siteless CRO clinical trial program.

Today, Joe is still a registered pharmacist and a diabetes educator. Once again he’s food inspired and back to doing what he loves most: helping people to eat healthy and enjoy doing it. Joe is a 2017 Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy silver ribbon award winner and his research was published in the April 2017 edition of The Journal of Clinical Therapeutics. Joe is a graduate of The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He is also a former military cadet at the US Air Force Academy.
